The MoN Diwali Gifting Guide

Updated: Oct 23, 2019

The festival of lights, Deepawali or the Indian Christmas; whatever you choose to call Diwali, all roads lead to great parties, lit-up houses, family gatherings and gift giving. In Hinduism, many believe that light signifies knowledge, truth and consciousness and this festival of lights is celebrated every autumn to celebrate the victory of light over darkness, or good over evil. To make your celebrations sparkle even brighter (and to help you with that last-minute Diwali shopping) here is our #MoNApproved Diwali gifting list!

Earth Loaf Chocolate

Does anything say ‘I like/love/care for you’ better than chocolate? We’ll leave that up to debate but if you’re looking for a sweet, small gift for someone then look no further than Earth Loaf’s small batch, artisanal and organic bean-to-bar slabs. They’ve got infused chocolate bars, bon-bons, teas, truffles and even ladoos!

Best for: friends with a sweet tooth

What we love: sustainable sweets always win big with us

Pricing: INR 330 for one chocolate bar

It’s not easy finding a gift for that friend who has a home to envy, but No-Mad is a good place to start. A uniquely Indian lifestyle brand, co-founder Anuj Kothari finds inspiration from everyday India and designs elegant textiles, décor, furniture and more.

Best for: your chic best friend What we love: this entire ochre range of textiles that are part of their Festive Edit (also how gorgeous is this Rajasthani shoot?!) Pricing: INR 3,250 for a Suman Cushion Cover (pictured)

The brainchild of Ministry of New member Nupur Kapoor, Neter Living is a mission-driven luxury home foods brand. They believe in supporting handicraft and artisanal eco-systems in India and changing the way people view these products.

Best for: your favourite couple who also throw the best dinner parties

What we love: you can work with them to co-create your own custom designs

Pricing: INR 2,250 for one small lotus urli (pictured)

Alma Five

Another Ministry of New member’s baby, Alma Five is a luxury jewellery brand that is both stylish and sustainable. Sonam Balani’s company works with artisans across the country to handcraft pieces that are modern, classic and unique.

Best for: your super stylish sister or cousin

What we love: their innovative designs and their commitment to support artisans Pricing: INR 6,385 for their Secretos de Rositas earrings (pictured)

If you aren’t sure about what you’d like to gift someone, or have a pet-lover in your life, we can’t think of anything better than a Diwali donation to the Animal Adoption & Care NGO run by Ministry of New member Ashraf Hussain. Even better, help get a little puppy or kitten adopted (or adopt one yourself) and save a life this Diwali. An independent committee of animal lovers, AAC aims to facilitate the adoption and care of homeless animals.

Best for: anyone looking for companionship and love and is ready for the responsibility of a pet What we love: their regular adoption days at Ministry of New, find out about our next one via our Instagram page.

An excellent design store (and also the designer behind our super-efficient Board Room), Rubberband has great ideas when it comes to gifting. From paper and toys to some of the best stationary we’ve come across; these are gifts that will be appreciated by those who enjoy the finer things in life.

Best for: the creative in your life What we love: the Ajay Shah designed diary! It's the perfect size, no nonsense, great quality thick paper and super sleek. Pricing: INR 1,195 for an A5 notebook for designers

Jaipur Rugs

For the perfect housewarming + Diwali gift, look no further than Jaipur Rug’s stunning assortment of carpets, dhurries and cushions. A great example of a for-profit company making a positive impact, they upskill women in Rajasthan giving them financial independence, the ability to work from their homes and the chance to support their families.

Best for: your parent's new guest room What we love: their recent collaboration with Italian designer Matteo Cibic Pricing: rugs start at INR 1,500

Paper Planes

If you know someone who loves to go against the grain, think about gifting them a subscription to Paper Planes. It’s an international indie magazine collection with names like The Gentlewoman, Kinfolk and Cereal under their umbrella. It’s hard to pick just one title so we suggest you offer them a bespoke subscription with access to whatever their heart may desire.

Best for: the traveller, the reader and the thinker What we love: The Gentlewoman, Monocle and Reader are favourites of our members and names you'll always find in our Gallery Pricing: INR 1,600 for The Gentlewoman

Got a Diwali party to attend and completely forgot to pick up a gift? Heading over to a cards party that you really need some liquid courage for? Is there really anything more useful than a bouquet of Sula and Simba? We think not.

What we love: what's not to love about wine and beer?
